WELCOME TO THE LIVING LIBRARY PORTAL OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE!
This portal is part of the human rights education resource centre of the Directorate
of Youth and Sport and provides present and future Living Library organisers with
contacts, inspiration and many practical pieces of advice.
Don’t judge a book by its cover – this is the simple message promoted in the human
rights education youth programme since 2002 in Living Libraries in the 47 Council
of Europe member states and beyond.
The youth sector of the Council of Europe has had decades of consolidated experience
in non-formal education practice, and offers this site as a means of promoting an
innovative method developed by young people - the Living Library – as an example
of best practice that promotes human rights to a public with usually little or no
access to the issue.

Living Library
documentary and revised organisers' guide
The
Youth Department of the Council of Europe has produced a
documentary “Let’s Take the
Feminist – The Living Library Experience” which was shot at
2011 Sziget Festival. The 26-minute feature documentary is in
Hungarian with English subtitles and presents the best moments
of the traditional Living Library event of the European Youth
Centre Budapest. The film is also distributed as a DVD
compendium to the revised Living Library organisers’ guide
“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover.”
